Caught My Fancy -- October

It's the most perfect fall weekend here in Virginia and from what I can see from other East Coast bloggers, it's pretty perfect everywhere on this side of the country.  I'm taking it easy after some very hard weeks at work.  A trip to the public library, baking, dinner in Old Town Alexandria and lots of reading.  Here is what has been catching my eye this month....

 

Stars Hollow Everything - With the upcoming Gilmore Girls re-boot (so excited!), Stars Hollow wonderfulness is everywhere.  Netflix turned local coffee shops into Luke's Diner on October 5th (why oh why did I find out too late???) and there is a Gilmore Girls Fanfest in Washington Depot, CT Oct 21-23.  Sorry everyone -- tickets are sold out, but I'm sure that there will be oodles of pics online.  My favorite recent Gilmore Girls discovery is the website of this guy who is searching for the "Real" Stars Hollow: Finding Stars Hollow.  Since living in my own personal Stars Hollow is my life's dream, I'm loving his video of his visits to Connecticut towns (see above), searching for the town that most closely matches the TV fantasy.

Box of Donuts Halloween Costume - I saw this in a local store and was crushed to find that it is only available in children's sizes.  I think that this is one of the cutest and most clever costumes that I've seen.  A few of the felt donuts are detachable with velcro so that you can "share" them with a friend.  If you'd like to get this for your kiddo, it's available on ebay from several vendors: link, link, link.

Decorated Planners- I've mentioned previously that my life runs by my planner during the school year.  I've recently been caught by the decorated planner bug -- washi tape, pretty seasonal stickers, writing in different colors.  It only takes me about 1/2 hour every week to dress up my pages, but it gives me so much pleasure to do it.  It truly lifts my mood to see those bright pages every day.  There are so many inspirational planners on Instagram and Pinterest.  A few that I follow are Eastloru, Georginathelibrarian, and Prettypaperpassion.

That is what has caught my fancy this month!  I'm off to take a wee nap before we head out to dinner....

 

Fall Musings

Autumn...it finally feels like fall here...sigh...for atmosphere, fall is my favorite time of year.  Cool air, sweaters & boots, the leaves, apple cider, cozy meals...it just envelopes you. 

We went to our first fall festival last weekend and I wore a sweater with a big plaid scarf yesterday.  Yep, it's here!

I made a fall bucket list this year.  It includes pumpkin picking, making a leaf pile, taking a walk in the woods, seeing a few creepy movies (Miss Peregrines, Girl on the Train), lighting fall candles and canning jelly.

This afternoon Hope and I are baking pumpkin bread.  Lots of little loaves this time so that we can share it with friends and neighbors.  With plenty of extra to put in our freezer, of course. If you'd like to have your own slice of pumpkin bread heaven,  here is the recipe.  When I wrote the original recipe, I forgot to mention chocolate chips.  You must add chocolate chips if you want to reach true pumpkin bread nirvana!

September With The Family in PA

This post is super, super outdated but I really want to share the wonderful weekend that we had with my family in Pennsylvania the second weekend of September.  Work may have gotten in the way of my posting about it, but the glow of happiness from the trip remains with me.

There were so many good times over the weekend that we were there.  One highlight was seeing my gorgeous cousin who just turned one.  Lilly, you are just so adorable!  Her personality is just as bright as her hair (that hair!!!  I'm in love!!!).

 

We timed the weekend so that we could go to a massive antique machinery show/flea market.  Glenn & my uncle headed for the machinery, Hope & I went for the flea.  Of course :)  I only got one thing there, which is sort of a mystery piece.

 

Anyone recognize that mark on the underside?  I think that it may be ironstone, but I can't find anything about the mark anywhere online.  We looked at it with my uncle's jeweler's loop and found a very faint WM in addition to the Princess mark.  I got a very, very good deal on it and I'd love to know how old it is and where it was made.  I should take it to Antiques Roadshow ;)

Later in the day, Glenn & I went to a large antique mall, where I found wonderful things. 

I've been in love with everything tartan this past year & this tin is so perfect for fall and the holidays. As a weird bonus, it was filled with hundreds of little black buttons.  Not cool vintage buttons, just plain little buttons. Hmm.

I'll tell the truth, I would have probably paid just about anything for this cookie tin.  Usually you see cake tins, but never cookie.  And cookies are my THING.  I need to start baking soon so that I can fill it up.

A wonderful wicker wrapped bottle, found in a dusty corner, and a beautiful English transferware platter, which will eventually make it's way to my re-vamped Etsy store. 

My aunts (who live next door to each other -- I keep telling my mom to buy a house on their street so that we could visit everyone at once) had a Saturday night get together so that we could see all of the cousins.  There was so much good catching up and so much good Lilly time!  And, the food!  There is nothing like a Central PA family party for food -- 5 or 6 desserts, ring bologna, dips, more!

 

That would certainly have been enough wonderfulness, but on Sunday, there was a birthday party for Lilly!  A big tea party at their church thrown by her mom and grandmother.

I was kicking myself for leaving my good camera at home.  I had to make do with my phone, but I'm glad that I was able to capture some memories of a a great time.  Love you, PA family!
