We are having a quiet Thanksgiving weekend this year, just the 3 of us at home. Hope and I had Wednesday off and we spent the day in preparation. Baking a pie, making cranberry sauce, gathering pine cones for the table setting. We used the chalkboard in the kitchen to write a few of the things that we are thankful for this year. Hope's entries are in pink, mine in green, Glenn's in blue. Yes, Hope is thankful for paper towels. And I am thankful for Pinterest.
The table was more casual this year, inspired by the wicker chargers I found at a thrift shop a few days ago. After we gathered the pinecones, Hope put herself in charge of arranging the centerpiece. I think that she did an excellent job. We used the good silver and my grandmother's etched glasses. The glasses have had an interesting journey away from our family and back again, thanks to my Aunt Kay. Whenever I use them, I think of how she found them and decided that I should be the caretaker of them for the next generation.
Hope and I handmade the place cards. They are so precious. I love them more than any professionally made card could be.
Hope thought (rightly so, of course) that since Dexter is a member of our family, he needed to have a spot at dinner as well. She made him a place card and served him dinner beside the table.
I'm lying low at the moment with a head cold that has been simmering for a few days. I'll rally later to put up the Christmas decorations, but in the meantime, I'm going to peruse Pinterest for ideas. I hope that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and are having a good weekend.
