Vintage Recipe Card Art

Found on Pinterest

I fell in love with this image on Pinterest about a year ago & have been thinking about it since then.  I love this kind of art -- personal & old & full of a story. 

I already had a few recipe cards that Glenn's grandmother (one of the sweetest women who ever lived) sent to me when she was alive.  My mother still has all of the handwritten recipes that her mother passed down, so I had my dad color copy one of them for me.

I placed them in frames from The Christmas Tree Shop (just opened here in Virginia!) & put them up in the kitchen:

 

This is the one from my grandmother.  "Stir & Drop" cookies -- sugar cookies that are a well loved favorite in our family. You can see from the stain on the recipe.

These are the cards that Glenn's grandmother sent to me when I asked her for the recipes for Glenn's favorites.  We miss her so much.  She was such a wonderful grandma.

Seeing these every time that I pass through the kitchen makes me so happy.

 

 

Father's Day & Beginning of Summer

How lucky are Hope & I to have this guy in our lives??? I always tell her that she is the luckiest girl in the world because she has known him since the day that she was born.  I had to wait 27 years to meet him. 

That photo is from the throwback machine, 3 summers ago at my cousin's wedding.  Here they are today:

Hanging out at Whitlows on Wilson, in Arlington, an old haunt of Glenn & mine from our dating days.  We used to say how we'd bring our baby there one day for Father's Day.  My heart overflows when I see that has come true. Sorry about the fuzzy photo.  My camera is working erratically at best, leaving me with my phone as a camera. 

We are winding this school year thing down!  Only 4 more days and it is summer for real!  We've been gearing up for it around the house.  I put in some more flowers, in part because I've already killed some that I put in a few weeks ago.  That takes a special kind of talent.

Hope got in some serious bubble blowing.  Dollar tree mega bubble wand is key.

My first trip of the season to the farmers market yielded these fresh donuts -- as in they make them fresh in front of you.   I love our farmers market.

So, as I said, my camera has been wonky. It's a bad/good situation.  Bad in that my camera doesn't work. Good in that I've been wanting to get a better camera pretty much since I got this camera.  I know that I want a digital SLR & that I'm a novice photographer.  But, I want to get good photos.  Which camera do you readers recommend for me?
