New Countertops!

My gorgeous new counters have been installed!  We are so happy with them, they really do make the entire kitchen look better.  As an added benefit, the new counters also neccesitated a new sink & faucet.  The new sink is slightly smaller than the old one & is undermounted, so we gained several inches of useable counter space.  In a kitchen this small, inches count!

We are almost done with the master bathroom!  The last few to-dos have been much more complicated than we expected (plumbing - ugh), but we are wrapping them up & I'll soon have before & after photos.

Happy Thanksgiving!

The weather has been turning this week, from the bright, brisk feeling of mid Autumn to the cold and quiet time of Thanksgiving.  I love that the weather reflects the time when we take a moment from our lives to think about our blessings and what we truly value.

This year, I will thank God for these things & so much more:

Glenn, my phenomenal husband, who loves me for who I am & is absolutely my rock. 

Hope, the bright shiny thing that lights up my every day.  I can't believe that you came from me.

My parents, who showed me that family is the thing that you can always count on.  And, they read to me every night and we had a family dinner every night.  What a great example to me.

My sister, best sisterfriend ever.  And, she gave me Rainer, the sweet, charming, strawberry blond nephew that has my heart.

Glenn's job, the thing that has kept us afloat as I find my way.

The world of possibilities that are at my feet every day.  What a lucky girl.

The peace and abundance of living in the United States.  Even with the difficulties, poverty & injustice that still exist in our land, we not only have it so much better than the rest of the world, but we also have a system that embraces constant improvement.

I hope that you & your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Not Taking This For Granite

Anyone who has followed my blog probably recognizes the above photo as being taken in my kitchen (small, cramped, frustrating kitchen...I digress).  In particular, I'm sure that you recognize those super up-to-date counters, in faux green marble.  Well, faux marble no more! We are getting granite!!!  Squeal!

A sample of our new countertops, shown in contrast to the old ones.  The new ones should be in our house within the next week. 

I can't wait to see what the kitchen looks like with the new counters.  I think that it will make a huge difference in the entire look of the room. I, of course, will share photos as soon as they are installed.

I thought that this kind of happiness only happened to other people.

Estate Sale Finds

This past Friday, I was driving down my street & low and behold,what did I see but a sign for an estate sale, on my very own street!  I made a quick u-turn & went straight to the sale. 

There wasn't much in the way of vintage, but check out this mirror!  It is absolutely perfect for our new master bath and only cost $30. 

I love the style of the frame and it's huge.  Perfect for when Glenn & I are both trying to get ready at the same time :)

In addition, I found these two bowls in the my favorite shade of pale green.  I'm somewhat a collector of bowls for my kitchen & I've been in need of a large mixing bowl since my old one went to mixing bowl heaven (the garbage can, in pieces).

I'm tempted to go back tomorrow to see if there is anything good left at the sale.  I'll post if I find anything else.

Isn't She Purty?

I got a new (to me) car! My 1999 Toyota Camry had been showing & acting her age over the past year.  When the repair expenses exceeded the car's worth, we went car shopping.  It is so much fun to buy a car...since I do it so rarely, I felt like such a big spender.  Well, as much as you can feel a big spender when purchasing a Honda Accord (I'll have you someday, Volvo!).  After driving around a worn out clunker, I feel like I'm in the lap of luxury every time I go to Target.  It's the little things.

Life has been totally crazy & there is a lot to report, so I'm going to try to catch up in my next few blog posts. 

 

One Busy Holiday Shop Owner

Whew!  I spent all day posting new vintage Christmas goodies to my Etsy shop & it is bursting with all kinds of Christmas delights.

All I Want is a Little Grass on My Lawn Pt.3

Ta Da! This is now what I see when I look out my front door! Grass!  Our hard work paid off, or at least paid off reasonably well.  If you look more closely, this is what you see:

Our lawn appears to have hair plugs.  But, all I asked for is a little grass on my lawn & that is what I got.  Maybe I should aim higher next time.  Nevertheless, the grass growing season has past, so we'll have to attempt to over-seed next spring. 

Halloween Fun
