It's been a whirlwind of home improvement around here, which accounts for my absence. That & I left my camera, with these images on it, at my friend's house and only retrieved it yesterday. I have many, many projects to update you on, my bloggy friends, but, for now, I will leave you with these few scenes of fall at our house.

Akkk! I'm so excited! I had a little tiny kind of dream come true last night -- I saw Sara Bareilles perform live last night at the 9:30 Club in DC! I'm sure that I've mentioned her before on the blog. I love her voice, her lyrics and her music.
The concert was amazing. At the 9:30 club, there isn't a bad spot, but I managed to get pretty close to the stage so that I could really see everything. She was about 15 feet from me, which is even better than I could have hoped. Her voice is just amazing in person -- it's pretty awesome to be in the presence of such natural talent. She sang all of her hits as well as a few other favorites from her first album.
The only downer to my experience is that I couldn't get any good photos or video. However, to give you a taste, I found this video on You Tube...enjoy!

I recently saw this project on a blog (I don't remember which one! If you know the original poster, please let me know.) & immediately knew that I had to try it. Easy, cheap & sparkling? Sign me up.
Hope & I collected acorns around the neighborhood, completely to the puzzlement of the people from whose lawns we nicked them. "You want to take my acorns home??? SURE!" We have a big acorn problem around here, so this part was easy. Actually, all of it was easy. One night, I pulled together the essentials:
Acorns, watered down Elmer's glue, paintbrush, Martha Stewart orange & brown glitter, Diet Coke & the remote.
Just paint on the glue...
roll them around in the glitter...
and voila! A great fall display. Everytime that I look at it, I think for a moment that it's a jar full of Hershey Kisses wrapped in fall colors. That it's not is a minor disappointment, I admit :) On the up side, it's a totally cute & simple craft!

The grass saga goes on. The crazy lady at the hardware store got to me....I abandoned my idea of "this will be an easy fix". We spent the past three days digging up our entire front lawn by hand and covering it in 5 cubic yards of topsoil.
This is now what I see when I look out my front door.
Unfortunately, this is what I see when I look at my driveway. I bought about 4 cubic yards too much topsoil. Whoops. Does anyone in Northern Virginia need some really nice topsoil? Hope & the neighborhood kids were having a great time playing on the mountain of topsoil. It gave a whole new meaning to "playing in the dirt".
We've purchased grass seed and fertilizer but were too exhausted to spread it by the time that I returned from Lowes. Boy, I hope that this grass takes & sticks around. If it doesn't, we have an even bigger mess than we started with. Stay tuned....
