Estate Finds

I went to my favorite kind of estate sale yesterday -- the family had lived in the same house for years & years and NEVER THREW AWAY ANYTHING. A disaster for their descendants, but a treasure trove for me! It was the last day of the sale, so things had been picked over, but I managed to snag  some good stuff.  4 glass canning jars, really great santa figurines as well as a Christmas candlestick.  I also found these awesome metal numbers, with handpainted flowers.  Here's a better pic for you:

They look kind of french, I think.  I'm sort of swoony over anything that is vintage & french so I snatched them.  Most of these goodies will be coming to the Etsy store later this week.

And, I'm SO excited, because the monthly Arlington flea market is making it's return this Saturday!!!  Can't wait!!

Vintage Office

On our way to Leesburg, we stopped by an estate sale which yielded a few worthy items.  The sale had some other very nice pieces, but they were way out of our price range (a GORGEOUS mission style oak  desk for $2300!).

I found a french/english dictionary, dated 1909, which will be made into ephemera packs for the etsy store and fun bridge score sheets, which will also become an ephemera pack.  My favorite is the oak indexed file box.  Love the vintage office goodness.  It's filled with great index tabs with both the alphabet & every day of the year.

Mailbox For Hope

Recently, Hope has really loved to play "mail".  She slips little pieces of paper into "slots" on her bookshelf & then demands that I deliver some to her as well.  I thought that it would be fun for her to have her very own mailbox!

I took a 12 pack soda box & cut it to a length of 6 inches

Visit to Leesburg

Sorry that I've been MIA for a few days. We had visitors (yay!) & then I had a root canal (yuck!).  While we had visitors, my parents to be exact, they took care of Hope for a day while Glenn & I snuck off to Leesburg, VA for a day to ourselves. 

First stop, Leesburg Antique Emporium, home to  Sue's and Four Shabby Chicks (no longer has a website :( )! Both Sue & Four Shabby Chicks did not disappoint.  I puchased a gorgeous set of etched glasses from FSC:

From downstairs booths, I bought the COOLEST looking white thingys, which I knew would look perfect in the apothecary jar in my powder room.  Turns out that they are old electric insulators!  I also purchased 2 more hand towels for the powder room:

Glenn bought a wonderful vintage light meter from Sue, for a photographer friend of his.

Happy from all of this shopping, we had lunch at Lightfoot:
It was one of the best restaurants that I've been to in a long time.  Perfect food, wine, service, atmosphere--an A+. The interior is absolutely fabulous -- it was once an ornate old bank which they have preserved.

After this, more shopping! First, to The Cottage, an adorable shop that has been featured in national magazines.  Unfortunately, I forgot to take photos!  But, I did take photos of the most wonderful slice of France, right in the middle of Leesburg, Creme del a Creme.  Can I move in??

It was a fun day & a real treat to be together as grown ups!

Altered Letter

My first project in my newly re-decorated craft room (pics soon to come!) was this altered 'H' for Hope's collection.  Just some pretty scrapbook paper on the front, cream paint on the sides, some creamy vintage seam binding tied into a bow, a little nosegay of paper flowers & a glittered "sweet girl".  My favorite things -- pretty paper, flowers & glitter.  Sigh.

Target Finds

I heart Target!  I heard via blogland that Target was running their seasonal housewares clearance (I'm so sorry that I can't remember whose blog I read it on -- please post if it was yours!) & I went over immediately!

I found this gorgeous flax colored linen table cloth & coordinating red cotton napkins.  The best part?

The entire set for less than $9!
