Recent Vintage Finds

I want to thank those of you who commented on my last post.  It was fun to see your spaces & to "meet" new bloggers. I had fun checking out your blogs. Thank you so much for visiting my blog! 

I recently made great vintage finds, two weekends in a row.  Love that.  My mom & I headed out to Apple Hill Antiques on my visit home a few weeks ago.  I found two adorable white pitchers/creamers and a metal cookie cutter with a wooden red handle for my collection.  Then, the very next week, there was an amazing garage sale down the block from us.  I only had 5 minutes to stop by (arrrgggh!), but I snatched up that gorgeous blue glass Ball canning jar for $2!!!  It's pretty old & just perfect for holding snacks.  I also found at the same sale the wire basket.  Its currently holding dishtowels, but I'm open to other ideas....

I'm sure to have more vintage pretties to share with you over the next few months as the Arlington flea market starts again this Saturday!  My sister & brother in law will be in town, so I'm dragging my sister there (rather willingly, I think) while the guys & Hope hang out at a coffee shop.

Speaking of my sister, I have BIG NEWS that I've been dying to share for months & I've been given the go-ahead: I'M GOING TO BE AN AUNT!!!  Yes, somewhere around August 1st, my sister will be having a baby boy.  Glenn & I are over-the-moon happy to be an aunt & uncle & plan to spoil.him.rotten just as Terri & Ezra have done for Hope.  I'm currently in the midst of planning the first of two baby showers that I will be throwing for Terri, along with my mom.

Where Women Create

I'm pretty sure that by now, most women in the blogging world are familiar with this book, Where Women Create.  What an inspiring book, not just for the images, but also for the stories of the women who have built their careers around their passions.

BUT, did you also know that there is now a magazine, inspired by the book, which takes you into even more creative woman's spaces???  The first two issues:
 
You can take a peek into  issue number one here.  Check out Shelly Gardner's space at the bottom...my dream creative space! In my dream house, I will have an entire room just for my creative space, with great vintage storage like hers & roomy workspaces.

For now, here is my current creative space:
 
Just a part of the guest bedroom, with a in-process project constantly spread all over. I've got another corner, just across from this, where I do my sewing.  My most creative times are the few hours that I often get on Sunday afternoons, during nap time, or the occasional evening when Glenn goes out with friends & Hope is asleep.  I putter around, make a huge mess & create to my heart's content.

Hotel Bed

Just a little post, to show off my latest project.  Those two pillows in the middle?  My latest sewing project.  I was inspired by the Nester's post about her bedroom makeover (also check out her series on "10 minutes to a room that you'll love"--she rocks).  It's all about making your bedroom the one that you love to be in, one that is comfortable & luxurious & peaceful.  I love that she says that she loved a room at an inn at which she stayed & it made her mad that she only allowed herself that kind of beauty once in awhile...why shouldn't it be an everyday thing?

My bedroom isn't like an inn (yet!), but those pilllows are one more thing to luxe up the room...AND--I love this part--they cost me about $6 to make!  I had the fabric left over from the curtains that I made when we moved in (you can kind of see them in the corner of the top picture in this post).  I found the pillow forms for $3 each at IKEA.  Who knew? IKEA is a hidden source for many a decorating gems, apparently.
I also have a new bedskirt to put on, but I need to modify it before putting it on. It was made for a bed without a footboard & we've got one, so I've got to do some cutting & hemming.  I'll show the whole bed once I get that on.

Little Corners

I'm behind on posting recently, mostly because I didn't know what to post about.  I'm about halfway through several projects that I'll be posting about soon.  In the meantime, I have moved around a few things in the house & I took photos of my new "little corners".  When I made the wine themed vingette on the sideboard, the birdies needed a new home...right on over to the side table in the living room.  Now that the weather is getting better, I'll be filling that green urn with (faux) forsythia branches. I also moved my family pics in the flower frogs to another spot in the living room.  I just love those and am always on the lookout for more frogs.  Lastly, on the spur of the moment last night, I pulled the wire basket flower arrangement & beeswax hanging (can you see that very well? Its made from cinnamon scented beeswax & smells so good) out of my stash.  I searched the web for a quote that was inspirational/humorous & would also fit well in the kitchen...I found Robert Heinlein's quote "To enjoy the flavor of life, take big bites".  Love it!  Printed out, mounted on scrapbook paper & hung with the others, it's my new favorite little corner.

Another reason that I didn't post last weekend is that we took a little trip to Port Discovery in Baltimore.  It's a great kid's discovery place that they call a museum, but is more of a kid's free for all.  Hope had a great time.
