Do you remember the quirky theme song from Frazier? Something about having tossed salad & scrambled eggs...well, that is my life right now! All bits of this & that, shook together & well, we are making a meal of it! Or, trying to!
Let's start with the kiddo....
You may remember that I said that she got a super-cute haircut. Here it is, though its kind of messy in this picture.
Her haircut is about the easiest thing that's been going on with Hope recently. First, she came down with pneumonia. Luckily, a mild case, so no hospital stay. But, pneumonia. For which she had to take steroids, which may have played a part in another challenge....
Devil Child. Oh yes, since she got sick, she has had 5 separate incidents of tantrums, biting children at school & the like. I'm sure that most parents say "My child is never like this, I just don't understand!" I wouldn't go so far as to say that Hope has never had a tantrum or gotten into a swatting match with a little friend, but these incidents are few & far between. And, biting???? This is a new, very not cool thing. I was beside myself when I heard that she had been biting at school. I've talked to her teachers, talked to my mom (retired school teacher/my resident expert in early childhood development), and the day care center director, trying to figure out how we can put a stop to this, post-haste.
We've been working constantly with Hope on it at home & she has shown some improvement (no biting on Friday or at a birthday party yesterday). I suspect that this sudden change in behavior might have something to do with being a two year old on steroids (yeah, it just doesn't sound right, does it?), but we aren't taking any chances or letting the blame lie there.
On top of all of this (this has all taken place in the last week), Hope was diagnosed with asthma. I know that lots of kids have asthma & that they often grow out of it, but I'm still pretty upset by it. I never was sick as a kid or had any serious condition, so this is pretty foreign to me. We've got to give her daily inhalation treatments from now until forever to prevent attacks (or whatever they call them).
So, we're trying to keep up with this along with daily life. My job continues to be mediocre on some days & just plain miserable on others. Sigh. Glenn just started his new position (same company, a promotion -- yay!), so there is that adjustment. Daily stuff. Kid birthday parties, making arrangements to visit family for Easter, the never-ending process of moving my old 401K to my IRA (really, so ridiculously difficult. Why is this so difficult?), and Hope daycare stuff ("please send in a photo of your child's pet & tell us what chores relating to the pet that your child is responsible for" What??? She's 2!).
Before all of this craziness began, I had a chance to make homemade Valentine's day cards. I worked some kind of spell on my old camera to download the photo, so I can now share my creation....
I'm quite pleased with it. I got lots of inspiration from Rosemary and Andrea. Rosemary, in response to my query, has so kindly shared some advice on how to make my crepe paper pleats more even next time. Thank you!
Also, we recently converted Hope's (I know, back to the kid again) crib into a toddler bed. When she started to put her chest on the rail & teter back & forth like a gymnast on the high bar, we decided that it was time. I used the conversion as a time to give her bed a tiny bit of a "big girl" make over.
Family, do you remember that quilt? Mid gave it to me as a shower present way back before Hope was born. I've been waiting until this time to finally have a chance to use it. I love it.
Hope just started to use a pillow, so we gave her a little throw pillow. I made that cover out of some sweet old fashioned ticking.

I know. This is the longest post ever. That's what happens when things are crazy & you also finally can get your camera to let go of some photos.
Lemme tell ya, tossed salad & scrambled eggs is very filling.
